Signs of Inflammation:
(Often, only a few symptoms will present themselves in any given case.) - Redness - Joint pain and/or stiffness - Swelling of joints - Joints feel hot to the touch - Flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, fatigue, headaches, muscle stiffness, loss of appetite. In order to be diagnosed, it is best to visit your doctor if you experience any of these systems. In order to diagnose you with an inflammatory disease, your doctor will have to examine not only your symptoms, but also your medical history. The doctor will likely run a series of tests, including blood tests and X-rays.
Examples of Inflammatory Diseases
Inflammation has become a source of great worry for many healthcare professionals, nutritionists and those who work in the food industry. Various forms of arthritis are connected to inflammation, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and gouty arthritis (often known simply as gout.) Inflammation may also be a symptom and/or cause in diseases and disorders such as hay fever, periodontitis, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
But the truth is, inflammation is just a symptom. It is not a condition in itself. Instead, damaging inflammation is the result of the damaging things we do to our body every day. Unhealthy foods, too much emotional stress and repeated physical injuries will all lead to an increase in inflammation and much higher chance of contracting one of the diseases listed above. In many cases, inflammation just comes along with the territory of the disease, but for a few, inflammation can be the cause of developing a new condition. And the rate of inflammatory diseases is on the rise. In recent years, 65 percent of arthritis diagnoses were for people under the age of 65. Young people are twice as likely as their parents to develop this painful and sometimes debilitating disease. Rates of diabetes have increased 49 percent in 10 years, and inflammatory reactions to high levels of glucose increase the chances of suffering diabetes related blindness, heart disease and cancer. New studies are revealing that the damage inflammation inflicts on artery walls in the heart are just as impactful as harmful cholesterol.
